QuickBooks Payments fee traps to check
- ACH is 1% with no cap on accounts that added Payments on or after Sept 5, 2023, so a $50,000 progress draw costs $500 to collect by bank transfer.
- Instant deposit adds 1.75% of the amount.
- Keyed cards cost 3.5%, a full point above in-person cards.
- PayPal and Venmo on invoices are billed at the same 2.99% as cards, so customers choosing them do not save you anything.
- Dispute protection is an extra cost, starting at 0.99%.
How to lower your QuickBooks Payments fees
- If you process more than $2,500 a month, call Intuit (800-264-1859); its rates page says you could qualify for up to 25% off transaction costs.
- For five-figure invoices, compare the uncapped 1% ACH with a capped option such as Stripe ACH at $5 or Helcim at $6, and route the largest payments there.
- Take cards in person at 2.5% rather than keying them at 3.5%.
- Use standard deposits instead of the 1.75% instant deposit.
Can you pass the fee to customers?
Unclear. Intuit's payment rates page does not list a surcharge or convenience-fee feature for QuickBooks Payments.
Contract and cancellation
No setup costs; pay as you go per transaction. The QuickBooks software subscription is separate.
