Why can't ChatGPT see my website?

Most often because the page renders its content with JavaScript. GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot do not execute JavaScript, so a client-rendered page looks nearly empty to them regardless of how it appears in a browser. Gemini is the exception, because it runs on Googlebot infrastructure.

What does this check look at?

Whether the page renders without JavaScript, whether AI crawlers are allowed in robots.txt, whether structured data is present, whether the page opens with a direct answer, title and description quality, indexability and canonical tags, freshness signals, and HTTPS and mobile basics.

Should I block AI crawlers?

That depends on whether you want to be cited. Blocking training crawlers while allowing search crawlers is a legitimate middle position, and blocking everything means you cannot appear in AI answers at all. The check reports what your robots.txt currently does so the decision is deliberate rather than accidental.

Is this the same as SEO?

Overlapping but not identical. Traditional SEO optimises for ranked links; answer engines extract and cite passages. Structured data, answer-first writing and FAQ formatting matter more here, and a site can rank respectably in Google while being invisible to assistants.

Does this change anything on my site?

No. It fetches your page the way a crawler would and reports what it finds. Nothing is modified, and no account is required.
