Landscaping Lead Generation Brampton: 7 Local Plays

Brampton lists 1,499 landscapers but only 103 licensed driveway contractors. The by-law, ad and snow-grant plays that win work in Brampton in 2026.

The short answer

In Brampton the money work is permit-gated, so the permit is the lead source. Council adopted By-law 32-2026 in February 2026 to shrink driveway widths, the City licenses driveway contractors and publishes the register, and Google's Canadian Local Services Ads menu has no landscaper category. Win on those three facts before you buy a single lead.

Lead generation for a Brampton landscaping company is won on permit-gated work, not on the phrase "landscaping Brampton." Houzz lists 1,499 landscapers and landscaping companies in Brampton. The City of Brampton's public register of licensed driveway contractors listed 103 companies when we checked it on September 3, 2026. That is the whole strategy in two numbers: the generic term puts you in a field of 1,499, and the work that pays puts you in a field of about a hundred.

The Brampton market is a hard-surface market

Start with what the city actually is. World Population Review estimates Brampton's 2026 population at 801,732, up 23,973 in the last year. Brampton's own GeoHub census profile records 189,086 private dwellings as of 2021, a 9.03% increase, and notes the city posted the fourth largest population increase among Canada's largest cities at 62,842.

The housing mix matters more than the headcount. WOWA's Brampton market report for the 12 months ending July 2026 shows detached homes at 56.1% of sales and semi-detached at 17.1%, a combined 73.2%. That is a city of ground-related homes with driveways, front yards, side yards and backyards, most of them built in the last thirty years on relatively tight lots.

Tight lots plus a lot of vehicles is why driveway width is a live political issue in Brampton and not in most cities. It is also why the profitable work here skews hard surface: driveways, walkways, steps, retaining walls, interlock. Those are five-figure jobs. Mowing is not.

By the numbers

Houzz lists 1,499 landscapers and landscaping companies in Brampton. The City of Brampton's licensed driveway contractor register listed 103 companies on September 3, 2026. Roughly 7% of the visible market is licensed for the highest-value work in the city.

Brampton is also one of the most diverse cities in the country. Its GeoHub census profile records 250 ethnic origins reported, with Indian the most frequent at 27.7% of the population, and the Region of Peel census hub records that 81% of Brampton's population is part of a racialized group. Practically, referral networks here are dense and community-shaped, which means your service page is competing against a WhatsApp group. Plan for both.

Play 1: own the by-law questions, because the rules changed this year

On February 25, 2026, Brampton Council adopted By-law 32-2026 to update driveway widths. The staff report behind it, dated October 6, 2025, recommended a Zoning By-law Amendment to reduce driveway sizes, following Council direction given in 2024. The City's driveway page now tells property owners to contact Zoning before construction.

This is the single best lead-generation asset available to a Brampton hardscape company, and almost nobody is using it. Here is what the rules actually say, from the City's own driveway page.

Brampton splits the city into a Mature Neighbourhood Driveway Regulation Area and everywhere else. Inside the mature area:

SituationMaximum width
Lot under 22 m wide6 m, and no more than half the front yard
Lot 22 m or wider, within 6 m of the garage8.5 m or the garage width, whichever is wider
Lot 22 m or wider, from street to 12 m in front of garage6 m
Detached rear garage, driveway on front lot line3.0 m, tapering to garage width within 6 m
Detached rear garage, driveway on flankage lot line6.0 m, tapering to garage width within 6 m

Every lot in Brampton, including pie-shaped and irregular lots, must keep 0.6 metres (2 feet) of permeable landscaping between the paved surface and the property line for drainage. Widening sections must taper in a straight line with no sudden flare-outs. A hammerhead needs a minimum 15.0 metre lot width, a minimum 9.0 metre front yard depth, a maximum 3.7 metre width, and it has to sit at least 3.0 metres from the front and exterior side lot lines. A semi-circular driveway needs a lot at least 22.0 metres wide with both entrances in the same yard, separated by at least 6.0 metres, covering no more than half the yard.

Then there is the paperwork nobody warns homeowners about. Work in the boulevard needs a Road Occupancy Permit because the boulevard is municipal property. A curb cut needs a separate permit. And before anyone digs, including for a fence post or a tree, Ontario One Call has to be contacted at least five business days in advance, with locates valid for only 60 days after you receive them.

Write that up honestly on your own site, with the measurements, the map overlay explained, and the permit sequence in order. You are not writing marketing copy. You are writing the page a Brampton homeowner needs and cannot find, at exactly the moment they have decided to spend twenty thousand dollars. That is the same logic behind ranking without buying leads, applied to a city where the rules are unusually specific.

Play 2: get on the register the City already publishes

The City of Brampton tells property owners plainly: ensure the contractor performing driveway paving work on your property is licensed by the City of Brampton. Then it publishes the list.

Getting on that list is not free. Contractors are required to submit a $5,000 security deposit and complete an online training program administered by the City. That cost is exactly why the list is short, and exactly why being on it is worth something. It is a barrier that filters out the truck-and-a-flyer competition, and it is hosted on a brampton.ca URL, which is a trust signal no amount of your own marketing can manufacture.

Scanning the register, plenty of the licensed companies are landscaping firms rather than pure paving outfits, and several pair concrete with snow removal in the legal name. That is the shape of a business that has figured out Brampton.

Tip

If you are already licensed, say so everywhere: your website footer, your Google Business Profile description, your estimates, your truck. Then link to the City register as proof. "Licensed by the City of Brampton, licence DW-xxxxx, verify on brampton.ca" is a stronger trust claim than any review badge, because the homeowner can check it in ten seconds and the City told them to.

Play 3: the Canadian ad menu is not the American one

Most landscaping marketing advice you will find was written for the United States, and one piece of it is simply wrong north of the border.

Google's US ad-solutions page lists "Landscaper" and "Lawn care" as separate eligible Local Services Ads categories. Google's Canadian Local Services Ads help page lists a different set: appliance repair, carpet cleaning, cleaning, electricians, HVAC, junk removal, lawn care services, locksmiths, movers, pest control, plumbers, roofers, tree services, water damage, window cleaning and window repair. There is no landscaper category in Canada.

So the very common advice, including advice given to a Mississauga landscaping owner in an August 2026 thread on r/SmallBusinessCanada, to "focus on LSA" as the primary channel, does not survive contact with the Canadian category list if you are a design-build or hardscape company. Your realistic options are to enter through lawn care services or tree services if you genuinely provide them, or to skip Local Services Ads and put the budget into standard Search plus map pack coverage.

The thread is still worth reading for the operator-level advice. One respondent with landscaping campaign experience in both countries recommended a page per service with project photos, a short note under each describing what the customer wanted and what was delivered, and tight postal code targeting rather than broad city-wide coverage. Another was blunter: track booked estimates and closed revenue rather than clicks, and be careful with agencies selling AI visibility as a magic solution.

Play 4: price the channel against a Brampton job, not a US benchmark

The reason contractors overthink lead cost is that they compare it to the lead, not to the job.

BenchmarkFigureSource
Landscaping and lawn care Google Ads CPL$87.80 average2025 analysis of 61 companies

All-industry Google Ads CPL, 2026$66.69WordStream
GTA interlocking driveway, installed$20 to $55 per sq ftGTA installer pricing pages, 2026

Now do the arithmetic on an actual Brampton driveway. A 6 metre by 12 metre driveway, which is the maximum width on a typical mature-neighbourhood lot running a standard depth, is about 775 square feet. At the conservative end of GTA 2026 interlock pricing, $20 to $35 per square foot, that is a $15,500 to $27,000 job.

At $87.80 per lead and a 20% close rate, you spend roughly $439 to sign that job. That is under 3% of revenue on the low end of the job range. The mistake is not paying $88 for a landscaping lead. The mistake is paying $88 for a lead and then having no system to follow up on the 80% you did not close, which is where most of the money in a Brampton season actually sits.

Most Brampton landscapers do not have a lead problem, they have a follow-up problem stacked on top of a positioning problem. We build lead generation systems for local service businesses that target the permit-gated work in your city and keep the estimates you already wrote from going cold.

Play 5: treat HomeStars as a capped test, not a pipeline

HomeStars is the Canadian directory that will call you, and the sales pressure is real. Here is what operators actually report, in their own numbers.

A contractor in an r/sweatystartup thread on HomeStars posted a quote of "$600/mo with tax for one year commitment. Thats $7200 per year with a 35% cancelation fee." Another operator, running residential plumbing and heating in Calgary, published a full seven-month result: $2,058 spent with HomeStars, returning $4,321 in revenue across 9 jobs at a $480 average ticket. He compared it directly to his other channel, where Google customer acquisition ran about $500 per customer against a $2,200 average ticket, and noted the booking-rate gap that explains it: 85% on inbound calls, 5% on outbound calls to form fills.

It is not universally bad. A flooring operator in the same thread reported paying $100 per month in Barrie for roughly three projects a week at about $1,500 each, while his Halifax year produced almost nothing and a billing dispute. One agency breakdown published in August 2026 puts HomeStars Premium around $200 per month for shared leads that close at 10% to 20%, against 50% to 70% for referrals.

The bigger issue for a Brampton company is what is happening on the homeowner side. An r/askTO thread in April 2026 titled around HomeStars having "become a scam" drew 23 upvotes and a run of comments describing homeowners retreating to word of mouth. One described signing up out of curiosity, getting an immediate call, saying they wanted to talk to other companies first, and being told by an annoyed contractor "I paid $80 dollars for your contact" before he hung up. A company owner in the same thread said the new model "pushed us away from a homestars membership."

Watch out

The signal in that thread is not that directories are bad. It is that GTA homeowners are actively looking for a way to verify a contractor that is not a review score. As one commenter put it, it is too easy to build a genuine-looking website and buy some reviews. Brampton hands you the answer to that objection for a $5,000 deposit and a training course. Play 6: build the snow list in October, because the City subsidizes it

Landscaping in Brampton is a seven-month business unless you make it a twelve-month one, and the City has quietly built you a qualified list.

Brampton's Snow Removal Financial Assistance Program pays qualifying applicants a grant of up to $300 for non-corner lot properties, or up to $400 for corner lots with sidewalks on two sides not cleared by City forces. To qualify, the applicant must be 65 or older at the date of application or have a permanent physical disability, must own or be the primary renter occupying the property, and can claim on only one property per season. Condominium dwellings where the corporation handles snow are excluded.

Two details make this a lead-generation play rather than trivia.

First, the City provides the money, not the service. Its own FAQ page is explicit that Brampton provides financial assistance for clearing sidewalks and driveways, not the clearing itself. The City also does not remove windrows, the ridge of snow the plow leaves across the end of the driveway, and states that windrows are the homeowner's responsibility. Meanwhile residents must clear their sidewalks by 11 a.m. the day after a snowfall. That is a legal obligation, a physical obstacle and a cash grant pointing at the same private contractor.

Second, reimbursement requires paperwork. The form must be signed, dated and submitted with all receipts, and where receipts are not available, the resident must record each snow clearing service with the date, the cost, and the service provider's signature. A contractor who arrives in October with a pre-printed service log, already formatted the way the City wants it, has removed the only friction in the transaction. Applications for the 2025/2026 season closed April 30, 2026, and the program is expected to reopen in October 2026.

That is a named month, a named customer segment and a named objection, which is more than any generic "market your snow services" advice will ever give you.

Play 7: tree work is permit-gated too, and the exemptions are the hook

Brampton's Tree Preservation By-law applies to private property, and the two exemptions are unusually easy to state:

  • No permit is required to remove a tree located within 2 metres (6 feet 6 inches) of an occupied building.
  • No permit is required to remove a tree with a diameter under 30 centimetres (12 inches), measured at 1.37 metres from the ground.

Everything else on private land needs an Application to Injure or Destroy a Tree. Separately, the Woodlot Conservation By-law covers parcels of at least 0.2 hectares meeting density thresholds, which matters if you work the edges of Brampton's newer subdivisions.

Two sentences and a tape measure answer the question a Brampton homeowner is googling at 9 p.m. Publish them. Then note that tree services, unlike landscaping, is an eligible Local Services Ads category in Canada, which makes it one of the few parts of your service list where that channel is actually open to you.

The 30-day Brampton plan

  1. Week 1. Check the City's licensed driveway contractor register. If you are not on it and you do hard surface work, start the licence application: $5,000 security deposit plus the City's online training course.
  2. Week 1. Pull your own map-pack ranking on a grid for the four or five terms that matter in Brampton, not just your home postal code.
  3. Week 2. Publish the driveway by-law page: the mature neighbourhood overlay, the width table, the 0.6 metre landscaping strip, hammerhead and semi-circular rules, Road Occupancy Permit, curb cut permit, Ontario One Call timing.
  4. Week 2. Publish the tree permit exemptions page. Two rules, one diagram.
  5. Week 3. Build one service page per money service with real project photos and a caption under each describing what the customer asked for and what you delivered. Brampton addresses in the captions.
  6. Week 3. Check your Local Services Ads eligibility honestly against the Canadian category list before you budget for it.
  7. Week 4. Set the paid test: a tight postal code radius on the mature neighbourhood areas, a localized landing page, manual campaigns rather than a broad automated one, and a hard monthly cap.
  8. Week 4. Build the October snow list now. Pre-print the City's service log format and identify every existing customer aged 65 or older on a corner lot.

Measure booked estimates and closed revenue, not clicks. If you cannot say what a signed Brampton driveway cost you to acquire, you are not running a channel, you are running a subscription.

What this will not do

None of this replaces a crew that shows up. Referral density in Brampton is unusually high, and a bad interlock job will follow you around a subdivision faster than any ad can outrun it. Publishing by-law pages will not fix a six-week callback delay, and getting licensed will not make an $18 per square foot quote profitable.

What these seven plays do is narrow the field. There are 1,499 landscapers competing for attention in Brampton and about a hundred qualified to do the work that pays. Every play above is a way of making that difference visible to a homeowner who is looking for exactly that signal and cannot find it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to get landscaping leads in Brampton?
Target the permit-gated work rather than the generic term. Houzz lists 1,499 landscapers in Brampton, so competing on the phrase landscaping Brampton means fighting all of them. The City's own driveway licence register listed 103 companies when we checked it in September 2026, which is a far smaller field for the highest-value jobs in the city.
Do landscapers need a licence to pave a driveway in Brampton?
Yes. The City of Brampton requires that contractors performing driveway paving work be licensed by the City, post a $5,000 security deposit, and complete a City-administered online training course. Brampton publishes the list of licensed companies publicly and tells property owners to check it before hiring.
Can a landscaping company run Google Local Services Ads in Canada?
Not as a landscaper. Google's Canadian Local Services Ads category list covers lawn care services and tree services, but there is no landscaper category the way there is in the United States. A design-build or hardscape company in Brampton has to enter through lawn care or tree services, or use standard Search and map coverage instead.
How much does a landscaping lead cost on Google Ads?
Roughly $88 to $125. One 2025 analysis of 61 landscaping and lawn care companies put the average Google Ads Search cost per lead at $87.80, and Green Industry Pros lists a good 2026 target range of $94 to $125. Against a Brampton interlocking driveway worth $15,500 or more, that is a small acquisition cost even at a modest close rate.
Is HomeStars worth it for a Brampton landscaping company?
Treat it as a paid test with a hard stop, not a pipeline. Contractors on Reddit have reported quotes of $600 per month on a one-year commitment with a 35% cancellation fee, and one operator posted a seven-month result of $2,058 spent against $4,321 in revenue. Results vary widely by trade and city, so cap the spend before you sign.
When should a Brampton landscaper start selling snow removal?
October. Brampton's Snow Removal Financial Assistance program pays qualifying seniors and residents with a permanent physical disability up to $300 for a non-corner lot and up to $400 for a corner lot, and applications for the 2026/2027 season are expected to reopen in October 2026. The City does not clear windrows, so that work stays private.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Brampton?
Sometimes, and the exemptions are specific. Brampton's Tree Preservation By-law does not require a permit to remove a tree within 2 metres of an occupied building, or a tree under 30 centimetres in diameter measured at 1.37 metres from the ground. Anything outside those two exemptions on private land needs an application.
How wide can a driveway be in Brampton?
It depends on your lot and whether you are inside the Mature Neighbourhood Driveway Regulation Area. In that area on a lot under 22 metres wide, the driveway can be up to 6 metres and cannot cover more than half the front yard. Every lot in Brampton must also keep 0.6 metres of permeable landscaping between the paved surface and the property line.
